June Meeting

At the June meeting we will focus on exploring some different ways of converting color images to black-and-white images, and how to get a better image once the conversion has been made. Members are encouraged to bring in color images for live conversion during the meeting.

The June PSIG meeting will be held on Thursday the 17th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Voorhees High School in room 245.

Additionally, members who wish to bring images on CD, Zip, digital camera media card, or as prints for discussion for troubleshooting during the meeting are encouraged to do so.

Tips and Tricks

Smart pixel reduction

Photoshop 8 has a new method to reduce the number pixels in an image yet keep some of the sharpness. To try it, select Image > Image Size and in the dialog, click on Resample Image, then choose Bicubic Sharper from the drop-down menu.

Swapping Crop Fields

When cropping or making selections, there is an overlooked shortcut introduced in Photoshop 8 which is quite handy. On the options bar there is a button between the width and height that swaps the measurements in the two fields, so if you have the tool set to crop a 4” x 6”, when you click this button it will crop a 6” x 4”.

Moving Multiple Layers From Document to Document

If you want to want to move more than one layer at a time from one document to another, this can be done all at once, rather than layer by layer. With the layers you want to move linked (to each other), drag one from within the document itself, rather than trying to drag the layer from the Layers palette.

Summer Break

The June meeting is the final meeting before the summer break. The next meeting is scheduled for September, 2004, when Voorhees High School resumes after the summer school vacation. Members will be notified with more details over the summer.
