Summer Winding Down, Next Meeting
As we enter the home stretch of the summer, plans are underway to set a PSIG meeting date for the upcoming year. North Hunterdon PolyTech is finishing their class schedule, and once it is completed, we will hopefully be given the choice of a few meeting options. Every effort will be made to ask the members for feedback if we are given a choice of days, and we will go with the majority of votes received. This should happen in the next few weeks, with the first meeting being as early as the second or third week in September.
Monitor/Printer Calibration
Member Chod Lang has found a tutorial on "monitor/printer calibration and gamma" which provides instructions on how to get your printer to print closer to what you see on the screen. It will require some study on your part, but there are answers. The information can be found on the website of Photographer Norman Koren at: http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html and is worth a look.
Tips and Tricks
Undo A Save
This is an especially helpful tip after you have flattened an image. Just press Option-Command/Alt-Control - Z" and watch your image un-save and/or un-flatten.
Have Enough Ram?
Photoshop can tell you if you have enough RAM in your system or not. In the bottom of your document window, where it normally displays the file size, click on the right-facing arrow and choose Efficiency. If the percentage is lower than 75%, you might want to look into adding additional RAM to speed things up.
Better Sharpening
After using the Unsharp Mask, you may notice halos around some of the colors. To get rid of this, go to Fade under the Edit menu, set the Mode to Luminosity, and bring the percentage down until it looks right.
