Summer Break, Next Meeting
Welcome to the Photoshop SIG summer break. The last meeting of the season was held in June, with a final look at the steps involved to complete the mock cover assignment. The monthly e-newsletter will continue to be published over the summer, and meetings are scheduled to resume in September, based on the schedule of PolyTech. In the beginning of August, we should know more information as to the times and nights available for us to meet. There is no guarantee that we will have the same night and time, but if there are multiple choices available to us, we will put it out to a SIG vote.
Macworld Expo
Macworld Expo New York takes place from July 17th to the 19th at the Javits Center. Although Adobe will not be there for the second year in a row (a sign of the economic times) there will be many Photoshop-related vendors scheduled to attend. Be sure to check out the digital cameras, printers, and related software tools from companies such as Apple, Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Nikon, IView Multimedia, and procreate. Full information and the up-to-date exhibitor list can be found at the official Macworld Expo website http://www.macworldexpo.com.
Apple Seminars
Apple regularly offer free seminars in New York City and the surrounding area. These events are a great way to network and see how to get the most out of the software tools and technologies available to us. Two Photoshop-related seminars on the horizon are as follows:

Tips and Tricks
Use RGB Filters on a Grayscale Image
When working in grayscale mode, you notice that many of the filters are grayed out. To get access to these filters again, just change your image back to RGB mode (Image>Mode>RGB) and apply your filter. Then switch back to grayscale mode and click OK when asked to discard color information.
Digital Camera Photo's Noise
When opening a digital camera photo in Photoshop that has been shot using JPEG compression (as is the case with most cameras) you are most likely going to find that it has some noise. The easiest way to get rid of this is to select the Blue channel from the Channels Palette and add a slight Gaussian blur. Start with a small amount, like .5, and go up from there until it looks how you want it. Now select the RGB Channel and continue with your corrections.
