PSIG News: March Meeting Recap
March 14, 2002

March Meeting

The March meeting of the Photoshop SIG was held on Thursday, March 14 in the graphics and printing room of the North Hunterdon High School/Polytech School. After a healthy question and answer session, Matt LaRusso talked about the new Photoshop 7. For the main presentation, Debbie Lynch presented a look at an application called TestStrip, a popular, and award-winning plug-in for color correction from Vivid Details. This was followed up with a look at a tutorial movie on Photoshop's Variations tool.

Links to Sites Mentioned

A number of solutions and sites were discussed during the question and answer session. Below are links to the sites for more information.

Sharpening Using Unsharp Mask

Despite it's somewhat cryptic name, Photoshop's Unsharp Mask filter is the best way to sharpen an image. Read about the fine-tuning of this filter as published in "Sharpening What You Want" an article by David Blatner which originally appeared in an April 2000 Macworld.

iView Multimedia, an iPhoto Alternative

Not using OS X? The you are missing out on Apple's iPhoto. However, if that is not enough to get you to upgrade your operating system, and you long for a photo-cataloging tool, iView Multimedia may be right for you. This somewhat-related useful tool has been reviewed by member Chod Lang and it can help you organize, share and protect your files, not just photographs. It is available for Mac OS 8.6 or 9.x and OS X. Trial versions are available for download.
