I liked the pattern made by the harsh
sunlight,

Shows when to use depth of focus. To get overall sharpness and shallow, selective focus.the orange cosmos was made with the lens wide open f/2.8 to get thegrass in the background completely out of focus.

AND by using a short telephoto 135mm which on the Nikon D1x comes to the

equivalent of about a 200 mm it renders the grass even softer and moreout of focus.

tMelanpodium - the yellow flowers massed, I wanted everything to be sharp. By stopping down the lens to the smallest aperture to f/22 everything in the picture was rendered sharp.

Contact sheet that follows attempts to show that there is more than one way to shoot a picture. Camera position was varied, i.e, shooting down on the subject from above. Then bringing the camera almost level with the bowl gives another view,

There are also variations in the quality of the light - both bright sunlight with its harsh shadows to no sunlight but soft discussed light producing an even light with no sharp highlights and shadows...usually a more desirable light.

Additionally, I used lenses of various focal lengths - not an especially big advantage in this bunch of pix, but a very big advantage when shooting gardens or scenics. Zoom lenses can fine-tune composition,None of the pix have been altered in Photoshop .
